The Discharge Process

Each nurse that entered our room was surprised to learn that Leah wanted to go home so soon!


Leah explained that the three other children at home were so excited to meet their new sister and she knew that she would get better rest in her own bed. The first mention of being discharged from the hospital does not mean that you will go home soon, it just means that you have started the process...we were so thankful that in God's perfect timing and attention to detail, we were granted discharge from the hospital, Evangelyn in hand.


Not without setting off a "code pink" - making it appear that we were stealing our own baby home! It was truly an adventure! Here's some pictures of the discharge journey!

We welcome Evangelyn Lili Dykstra!

Today we welcomed Evangelyn Lili Dykstra to our family! She was born at 4:24 PM PST, she weighed 7 lbs 14 oz. Thank you for your prayers!

Here is some thoughts about her name:

We have been learning during this season of our lives that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is central to our lives as Christians, and it is our prayer for this daughter that she would be a bearer of the gospel of Jesus Christ - the good news for all, in addition to being welcome good news to us as she joins our family.

This form of Elizabeth reflects the meaning that God is our abundance. This has certainly been true in this season of the life of our family and we pray that this would be true for her as she walks her steps unto Him. Lili also can refer to the flower, which serves as a symbol for purity.

Dyke Street, the literal translation of our last name - our ancestors in Holland likely lived on the street of the Dyke, or on or near one of the Dykes.
